Google News

Okay, so this is not about Google having started a news channel, this is news about Google. Google is now 10 years old and here is a report from the globeinvestor about it: http://www.globeinvestor.com/servlet/story/GAM.20080906.RCOVER06/GIStory/

Google Chrome

Advertisers get billed for ads the user never sees with Chrome: http://www.informationweek.com/news/internet/google/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=210300377

Chrome is said to run faster than Firefox 3.1, how much faster is it? Is it less memory intensive or more? Firefox has been a huge memory hog, and speed of the firefox browser hasn't been the critical factor, due to the amount of memory hogging, its eventually the explorer process speed that starts to make the difference instead.

Google chrome has killed the toolbar business, killing a lot of competition as well, because their new browser forces users to have to use a search engine to get around in the web. Toolbar search constituted 12% of all searches, but with chrome toolbars have lost out. http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/03/googles-chrome-kills-the-lucrative-toolbar-business/ Do we really want to allow Google to take over our whole computer with all the processes Chrome adds? The previous browsers added only one process, while Chrome will now hog the computer with multiple processes. Do we even have a choice anymore?

The new version of firefox has also eliminated the old style tool bars, and instead of recently used links provides bookmark links:

All this is leading to more control for the browsers over the way we like to use our internet, because now they have decision making power into the URL a person is more likely to go to.

Google's stock has again risen over $500 per share and there seems to be a lot of hype? Is the hype reasonable, or is this another bubble? At one point Google has held a P/E ratio of over 100. Is the hype due to the expected Gphone or everything in general?

Not anymore it seems Google has come back down to $485 all of a sudden? Any known reason or just Stock Riders? Seems to have continued to drop, so its not stock riders. Google Chrome was just released and in one day High: 452.94 to Low: 417.55

Infringements

I think Google is seriously infringing and stealing other people's work and ideas. It simply goes after building whatever other site has grown big or whatever product looks good for itself be it Yahoo, Mapquest, Wikipedia, Aol, Iphone, Youtube, Facebook or television broadcasters and cable companies.

GraphOn claims Google infringed patents: http://atlanta.bizjournals.com/atlanta/stories/2008/08/18/daily13.html

I dislike Google. Google's stock is down because they will be soon crushed; although I gotta say, that Marissa wahtever her name is is such a hotty. Did you know Sergy and Larry both dated her? Nice job, I can see why she was employee #5 at Google.... hahaha........... hahaha. Or maybe it was just Larry.

Spectrum Use Policy

Starting in Feb 2009 the government is requiring that TV channels must move off the Analog spectrum and use only Digital spectrum freeing up radio frequency space. Google along with others is petitioning for new policy on Spectrum use.

Google takes on the TV industry http://techland.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2008/08/18/google-takes-on-the-tv-industry/

It seems now that Google is also trying to become a television, See: http://www.freetheairwaves.com/, http://techland.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2008/08/18/google-takes-on-the-tv-industry/

The position Google is taking in this one because it will help us all in being able to use the wireless spectrum in an unlicensed way rather than a few people controlling it. Google also has a lot of incentive to do this because it will gain a lot of additional ability with this.
